What is TED? TED is an annual gathering of big brains and cool creators in California. Get the full story at TED.com. What is TEDx? In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TED has launched a new program TEDx to expand the TED into areas beyond California. TEDx events are springing up at cities around the globe. This is the second TEDxDetroit. Who is presenting at TEDxDetroit? Cool people. We'll be announcing members of our top shelf line-up over the next few weeks. Can I present, perform, display at TEDxDetroit? Maybe. First up, apply to attend the event and tell us your positive idea for the world when you apply. Second, drop a line to our speaker/performer coordinators. Can I volunteer to help at TEDxDetroit? Sure. We'd love to have you. Our Volunteer Coordinator Shelli Gutholm has set up this handy form: Volunteer at TEDxDetroit. Where to I register for TEDxDetroit? Attendance at TEDxDetroit is by application and invitation. Click here to apply. Apply for a conference? Seriously? Seriously. Space is limited for this event. We're working to ensure the people attending the conference are as interesting as the people presenting. We're curating a collection of thinkers and doers across a wide range of fields and experiences. From fresh minded students to seasoned entrepreneurs, TEDxDetroit will host an interesting mix of talent and experience. If you have positive ideas for the world, you might be just the person we're looking for. When is the application deadline? Apply before August 29th for your best shot at snagging an invite to TEDxDetroit. I didn't get a confirmation email when I applied. What's up with that? We're using google docs to accept application. The good news is that it's simple and efficient. The bad news is it doesn't offer a confirmation email feature. We'll be tweeting the twitter handles of applicants every day. Be patient. It will take a bit of time to catch up with the backlog. Who's putting this shindig together? This independent TEDx event is operated under license from TED.com. The event is being produced locally by Charlie Wollborg of Curve Detroit, Derek Mehraban of Ingenex, Catherine Juon of Pure Visibility, Terry Bean of Networked Inc, Becks Davis of Detroit Moxie, Hubert Sawyers III of Tweetea, Becky Johns of Becky Johns Photography, Elena Wollborg of AIM, Nick DeNardis of Wayne State, Rob Palmer of Arzika, Jennifer Middlin of TEDxLansing and Shelli Gutholm of PlugIn Talent.
